A battery-backup alternative to a standby generator in Glen Rock

A real, documented Fuse Electric project — a Reliance Pro/Tran 2 manual transfer switch and inlet that let the homeowner's EcoFlow lithium battery power essential circuits when the grid goes down.

The installation

A whole-home battery backup, wired to power what matters

A note on scope: Fuse Electric installed the transfer switch, inlet, and wiring infrastructure that make backup power safe and code-compliant. The EcoFlow lithium battery power station was supplied by the homeowner, who wanted whole-home peace of mind without a full standby generator. When the grid goes down, the homeowner flips the manual transfer switch and the battery powers a set of pre-selected essential circuits.

The story

What we did & why

Challenge

The homeowner wanted reliable backup power for outages — heat, refrigeration, internet, and lights — but preferred a quiet, fuel-free battery system over a full standby generator.

Solution

Fuse Electric installed a Reliance Pro/Tran 2 manual transfer switch, a twist-lock inlet, and the wiring that ties six essential circuits into the homeowner's EcoFlow battery — a clean, code-compliant setup that prevents dangerous backfeed.

Result

During an outage the homeowner connects the EcoFlow battery, flips the transfer switch, and keeps the essentials running — and the same inlet also accepts a compatible portable generator if they ever want one.

A closer look

A manual transfer switch is the safe, code-compliant device that lets a battery — or a portable generator — power selected circuits without backfeeding the grid. Here it's paired with a lithium battery for quiet, fuel-free backup.

Is this right for your home?

Battery backup vs. a full standby generator

A battery backup system is one of several ways to keep the lights on during an outage. It won't replace a whole-home standby generator for every household, but for many homeowners it's a quieter, fuel-free way to protect the essentials.
